About NEREC

The first part of the Conference will be devoted to discuss the second annual report in the 'Monitoring EU Telecoms Policy' series. This initiative allows a regular examination of the work of the European Commission and other European institutions (the ERG, the RPSG, the Council and the European Parliament) in the field of telecoms regulation and competition. Every year, a report is written by a group of highly respected economists known for their works on regulation and competition in telecommunications and media markets. The views expressed in the report are those of the authors writing in a personal capacity. The annual NEREC Research Conference provides a platform for discussing the report and presenting it to the broader public and the media.

The 2010 report will focus on the EU Policy on Next Generation Networks covering the following aspects:

  • NGAs and the Digital Agenda
  • The EC's Recommendation on NGAs
  • NGAs and Net Neutrality
  • US policy on NGAs vs EU's: What can Europe learn from the FCC's National broadband?

The authors of the second report are Martin Cave (University of Warwick), Scott Marcus (WIK), Andrea Renda (CEPS), and Tony Shortall (Telage).

The second part of the Conference will be devoted to the presentation and discussion of NEREC report on "Elements for a Spanish strategy on NGAs".
